I'm new to Ford 8n ownership and when I purchased our 1947 Ford 8n last fall, I promptly changed all of the fluids. Our local farm/home store only stocked 80-90w gear oil and after reading a few posts, this is what I put into the transmission/hydraulic case. I've only used the tractor for an hour or two in warm weather and did experience any operational problems or leaks. After reading the posts, I am considering changing out the gear oil and finding some oil that meets or exceeds the ford 134 requirements. At Fleet Farm I saw a five gallon bucket that had the ford oil code on the back along with many other tractor manufacturers and their oil code. I also saw the bucket indicated a 10-20w. Is the recommended oil that much lower in viscosity and weight than 80-90w gear oil?

Dear Newbie..... ....Ford/New Holland now recommends M2C-134D hydro-tranny oil. 5 gals. Fill by tranny shifter, 3 drains. Start with the sq headed plug under diffenential 'cuz it pees with some accuracy innna bucket. Then drain the big 2 1/2" hydro pump plug. Then drain the 2 1/2" tranny plug.

Unfortunately, the original Ford 90wt mineral gear oil IS NOT THEN SAME as the more readily available 80-90wt gear oil. And yes, M2C-134D does has about the same viscosity at common 20wt engine oil.

My advice is use the oil that meets M2C-134D specs..... .....Dell
