Dipstick heaters, magnetic heaters, lower radiator hose heaters.

I already keep my battery on a Schumacher maintenance charger, so plugging one more thing in isn't a problem.

The lower hose heaters seem highly recommended in the archives, but I am unclear on how these work. Do they have to be removed in the summer? Do they complicate maintenance?

Also, which type of heater gives you the most bang for the buck in energy USAGE?

Scott, I keep my 8n on life support for the winter months. Dipstick heater for the transmission (75w), Magnetic (400w) for the block/ crankcase and a battery tender. I have never had a problem with this setup

Several years ago I was feeding hay to cattle in winter with my 8N, it had to start every day. I put a lower radiator hose heater on it and it is very sucessful. I would plug it into a drop light that I would hang on the manifold. I plugged the drop light into a heavy timer that I would set for about two hours before I needed the tractor and it would start like it was summer. It has been on the tractor for years with no extra maintenance problems. P.S. my tractor is still 6 volt original except for an overrun starter or clutch starter whatever you want to call it. That is a good investment too.
