My 9N spindle/seals/bearing crusade continues. I ordered new spindle bushings and thrust bearings and thought I'd go ahead and pull everything apart and get it cleaned up. Got the spindle out but the IT shop manual is a little vague on bushing removal. Can I use a large socket to drive them which direction? Will call Just 8N in the morning for wider seals.

I cut mine out carefully with a torch. After doing this someone said just cut a slot through it with a sawzall and it will pop right out, duh, don't know why I didn't think of that!

I read Zane's reply and my experience was the opposite-the aftermarket needed to be reamed but the FNH replacements were right on. Be interested in seeing what you come up with.

I just finished changing the bushings on my 8N. On one side I drove both bushings out the bottom and they came out easily. The other side did not go as well. I ended up driving the bottom bushing out the bottom but had to drive the upper bushing out through the top. The new bushings went in good. I just set them in place and used a piece of hardwood and a hammer to drive them in. This along with new wheel bearings end shimming the radius rod ends eliminated my front end wobble.

Last fall, I removed both the spindle bearings at the bottom and the bushings by tapping out of place with a long dull screwdriver and hammer. It helped to soak them in some liquid wrench for a while to loosen up some of the corrision. If you leave the bushings inside the spindle, make sure they don't cover up the grease zerks. Hope this helps.

There is no need to drive the old bushings out. Just drive the new ones in and the old ones into the center of the housing. This will add weight to the front end and help keep the wheels on the ground. I have seen the housing full of old bushings on some of these old tractors.

If you get the original ford bushings they will have to be reamed. They are made this was so that when they are hammered in and get banged up and distorted they will fit after reaming.

After market ones my not have to be reamed.
