My wife and I just got a 9N with a Dearborn loader. The loader supposedly lifts well - no leaks. However, to maintain the lift at a given position, the hand must constantly be on the control lever to continually re-adjust. From other postings, I understand the 9N has no position control. Is there anyway to fix this? Thank you.

3 possible senarios-your loader has a pump mounted on the front of it with a shaft going to the engine, your loader operates directly from the tractor hydraulics bypassing the lift arms, or the loader operates from the lift arms directly.

If your loader operates from the front mounted pump, then your issue is most likely with the lift arms or control valve since it has nothing to do with the tractor hydraulics.
If your loader operates from the tractor hydraulics directly, then it may be an issue with the hydraulics themselves.
If your loader operates from the lift arms of the tractor, it could be a position or tractor hydraulic issue.

Thank you Mike for your assistance. The loader operates from a front mounted pump with a shaft going to the engine. Upon further research, I thought that the reason the loader (empty) would drop when we were driving was due to the fact that the 9N does not have position control (therefore ZaneThang?). However, what should I be looking for on the lift arms or control valve? Again, thank you for your assistance.

You say, (I thought that the reason the loader (empty) would drop when we were driving).

This leeds me to think that the main control valve for the loader is leeking by the spool valve inside the valve. This is very common and it probably needs new "O" rings or seals.

You also say that the pump is driven off the engine. This would make the loader completely separate from the tractors lift.

Hi Miller, I am assumeing that the loader is controled by hyd levers, up to your right like a dearborn on a jubilee. If the loader falls when the controls are in hold, you have an internal leak some where, you said you have no external leaks. Might be in the control valve, the cyls I am familiar with are one way and if they leak bad you should see oil leaking out.
This is the best I can do from here.Bob

"From other postings, I understand the 9N has no position control. Is there anyway to fix this?"...Get a Zane Thang!! Its a bolt-on item from one of the members of the most excelent board. Takes about 10 minutes to install, no modifications needed. I got one, works great. Set the bush hog to one spot, off I go, all day.
Before the Thang, constant watching (sore neck).
