Exhaust gasket required ?

I have been trying to fix a exhaust leak where the exhaust pipe attaches to the exhaust manifold. The pipe clamp I bought with the exhaust pipe/muffle assembly from Tractor Supply doesn't seen to clamp together tight enough to prevent a small exhaust leak.

Is there a heat proof o-ring type gasket that suppose to fit between the exhaust pipe and the exhaust manifold? Something similar to the kind that was used on the old Chevy's I used to work on.

Or do I need a different clamp?

Thanks

Had a similar problem for years. Not sure what your clamp looks like but I ground off som material on both pieces of the clamp right at the bolt to allow it to close further and it cinched it up tight very nicely. I was getting tired of the black stuff covering that side of the engine. What really made a difference was when I replaced the exhaust, since the pipe was the thickness it was supposed to be

In addition to the suggestions in the two previous posts I've heard you can stuff steel wool between the clamp and pipe before tightening the clamp or fill the clamp groove with JBWeld and then put the clamp on and tighten it down. Haven't tried any of them but it's said they all work. HTH

Are you sure you got the right clamp? The 8N exhaust clamp is actually two different size openings. If you put it on upside down, it will never seal, if you put it on the right way, it seals up pretty good when you tighten it up. The bottom part of the exhaust manifold needs to be in real good shape for the taper on the pipe to fit snuggly.

You probably have the right clamp. They fit loose. Your only options are 1. find a gasket to fit in there, I couldn't when I tried, 2. get some exhaust pipe permatex or a similar product and stuff it in or 3. cut a small strip off an aluminum can and put it around the connection, and then clamp goes on top. I did no. 3 and it seems to work.

I experienced the same problem for some time and decided to use stainless steel tape purchased from the local hardware store. I removed the clamp and wrapped the connecetion a couple of times and installed the clamp. It sounds great, without any leakage.
