Whenever I get any kind of speed up the front tires start to shimmy like they are going to fly off. I'm not hauling butt like some may think, just about 12-15mph. once you turn a little and get some pressure on them it stops. Any ideas. thanks adam

Sorry for the last post, when I worked the steering on my '46, I found the sector segments needed 'custom' thickness shims not offered in the parts book. Ended up with nice close clearances and no hint of shimmy. (It's nice when a plan comes together!)

My father's 8N always did the same thing. My 2N has not yet developed that problem (knock on wood). When I was a kid I always volunteered to do the road traveling on the N, too young to drive a car, but a tractor was a different story..... His problem was too much play in the steering sectors. When the wobble started, I just steadied the steering sectors with my foot, the wobble went away immediately. I guess on long rides this would be a pain to do reapeatedly, but his was like that for 25 years that I know of and was just one of the quirks of his tractor that we got used to.

Jack up just one front wheel at a time, then move the wheel back and forth and see where the slack is. You can see a lot by doing that.

Darrel.
