Thinking about buying a couple of implements for Purty (my 8n). I've not had much experence with either of these. I was wondering what a good (fair) price would be for one or the other, or both, and what their best use would be. I already have a good 2 bottom and an okay single row disk. Thanks for any help. Kevin

Hi Kevin. Need a little more info from you in order to help better. Are you collecting implements, or do you need something to augment your current plow and disc, because they aren't getting a certain job done for you? You can do a lot of field prep with what you've already got. A Bush & Bog Harrow is useful in really heavy soil, or in leveling old beds, rice levies and dykes, chopping heavy trash, clearing new land (soil that has never been broken), renovating pastures (though your current disc can do this, too), or discing in cover crops (though your current disc should be able to do this, too).

A disc plow is used for terracing, or for tough to penetrate ground, for sticky/waxy/tough to scour soils, for root-laced ground that makes using a 2-bottom a royal PITA, and/or very abrasive soil that grinds through shares and moldboards too quickly. It's a good tool for cutting fire lanes for example, because it rolls over rocks and cuts through roots.

I don't have a clue as to what either are worth.

I have owner's manuals and parts breakdowns for several models of either implement. If you get them, and need the info, give me a holler back and I'll see how I can help.

Best of luck..... ..Ed

I want to put in a couple of deer feed plots on an old right of way clear cut that's been grown over for the last 20yrs. It's totally grown over with fully grown sumack, china berry and oak saplings, johnson grass and alot of other trash. This old right of way is 75' wide and goes down a low grade hill about 200 yards to a dry creek, and then back up about 80 yards to a 12 acre field. The soil along most of this is a little rocky, and it is certainly grown up and root bound. I brushed hogged and burned some of it already, but the plowing job was a little more than my tractor wanted to do, although we did get a little plot in last year only about 75' X 50'. When I was a kid we used to find arrowheads in that little dry creek, might just find more when I get this worked up. THANKS for the good advise, and the offer to help with more info. Ed if I buy them I'll get the model numbers and let you know. Both the bush n bog and the disk plow are Dearborn 3 point.

Kewin..... ...I'm certain that your question makes perfect sense to you. BUT .....
I have never heard of a "brush n bog disk". Have you a better description? Is your disk plow is one of those with 30" disks? Have you a better description? And since you already have a 2-bottom plow why do you need a disk plow? Are these new or used implements? I don't think I would pay more than $250 for any used implement unless I just had to have it. respectfully..... ....Dell

Kevin, I bought a used Dearborn double bottom with disks about 10 years ago in very good condition. The guy wanted $400 for it and we settled for $300 after a couple of weeks of haggling. A friend just bought(about 2 months back) a Ford, which is identical to my Dearborn and I believe he paid $325. He just finished completly rebuilding it, because it needed it. He probably has at least $400 into it. I like the other reader, would like to know what a Bush and Hog is. Could you enlighten us?
