Need Help-SWAY BARS

I'm in the process of acquiring sway bars to attach on the draw-bar on my 8N to prevent sideways movement. The other end of the sway bars obviously slip onto the pin on the bracket which is bolted underneath the axle below each fender.
My question: Is the pin on the fender bracket supposed to lineup directly with the pin (which holds the draw-bar arm) on the differential housing??? If the two pins don't lineup directly opposite each other, then what's to prevent the sway bar getting bent when the draw bar lifts up??? On my 8N the pins don't lineup and when I switch the brackets under the fenders to the opposite sides, the pins still don't lineup directly with the pins in the differential housing. I'm puzzled, do I have the wrong sway bar brackets???

Matt,

I assume you are talking about the 11 hole drawbar like in the attached picture. If so, you should not be using the sway bars that go under the axles. Rather you should be using stay bars like in the picture. MUCH better - more rigid - bigger triangular structure - they were designed to go with the 11 hole drawbar. You could get them at CT before they went out of business, but maybe TSC has them.

Thanks, Tayman for the picture - was in post a day or so ago called "Warning".

Regards,
Larry

Some of the aftermarket brackets that mount under the fenders have more than one hole for the pins. If yours does, check to see if there's an empty hole that lines up properly.

The sway bars on my 8N did not line up when I got it. The bracket have four holes and sloted mounting holes on the bracket. I had to move the pins to the same hole on both brackets and shift one bracket on the axel/fender mount to make them line up. I also use the upper sway brackets when towing or use the draw bar mounted under the rearend housing when towing. I dont like towing from the tool bar, to much chance of the load pushing the tractor and bending the sway braces, causing over running of tractor and operator. Frank

In reply to the several responses, unfortunately my brackets don't have any additional holes to move and lineup the pin. So all I can do is buy and install the sway bars (stabilizer bars) and then manually lift up the drawbar all the way up to determine if there's any restriction or pinching on the sway bars.. If not then I can use the hydraulics for my brush mower or boom pole.
Thanks fellows, Matt
