3 different problems with 2N

I have a 1946 2N, front mount, with a professionally rebuilt 8N engine. I have replaced the PTO seal twice in the last year, and still have a significant amount of leakage. Any ideas what the problem may be? Also, I had the carb rebuilt last fall by my FNH dealer, and now if I let it sit, the gas runs out, but I'm not sure exactly what part of the carb it's leaking from. I guess I'm going to have to check the float, but I'm real green when it comes to carbs. Last but not least, the engine always starts, usually on the 1st or 2nd try, but if I leave it running long enough to warm it up, and then shut it down, it won't start again until I let it cool. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Rick

Concerning the PTO I agree with Mike that the PTO shaft could have a worn spot where the seal rides. It could also be bent or the bearing could be bad.

Rick -
I would suspect that if you replaced the seal correctly and did not damage it during re-assembly, then the sleeve it rides on may be worn and needs to be replace also.

As far as the fuel goes, simply shut it off when you are not running the tractor. Dirt in the carb and a sticking needle/float is the most likely culprit. I agree with Paul about the coil or ignition switch as a possible cause for the non-starting. When it does not start, open the hood and put a jumper wire on the ignition switch terminals. If it starts, replace the switch. If it does not, look into the coil. I will have to defer to those wiser than I on the PTO issue...

When it doesn't start you'll have to find out and decide if it is fuel starvation, flooding & or spark. I would opt for the spark. Pull plug wire and check spark. No spark could be the coil. They are prone to fail along with the ignition switch. HTH
