I am restoring my Jubilee and it had a Piston Hyd Pump on it when I got it....It seemed to work OK....I have recently aquired a Vane Pump and related tubes ....I believe they work fine...question is ....Which one should I put on the Jube ...Is there any advantage of one over the other....I think the Vane has a higher flow rate than the Piston ...I don't know how I would benefit in normal use though ???....What would be the value of each....I know I saw Piston's go for about $300 ...but I don't have any idea what the Vane's value is...As Usual ANY opinions welcome...Thanks...Alan

Alan,

Vane pump was the original on a Jubilee. I have one, in good working order still on my NAA. I believe the piston pump is a replacement to the vane. The output of the vane pump was adjustable 1.25 to 4.8 gallons per minute, by turning the Hy-Trol knob on the pump. I run mine mostly at the lowest setting. The piston pumps have a fixed flow rate at 2.5 gallons per minute. I think there is also a 4.0-gallon per minute piston pump. This is too much flow though the NAA Hydraulics and causes over correction in draft control. Though Ford or NH doesn't service the Vane pump, parts are available. Check the archives.

Alan, I have heard it said here and other places that the vane pump is not very desireable. It seems to fail and cost alot to fix I think.

I was a plant maintenance man before I went into field service. I have rebuilt vane pumps and thought they were easy to clean up and install new vanes. I seem to recall a kind of fiber composite vane that did not eat pumps but did wear and need replacement regualarly.

Not sure if this applies to the Ford vane pump, just hoping Zane or someone that knows can explain the problem. I have always wondered.
