A quick note (yeah right). My 49 has been sitting in the barn for the last 6 months with the front end torn apart, waiting for me to get on with engine disassembly. So finally about 3 weeks ago it got warm enough out there to finish the tear down job. After many references and interviews I found what I believe is a good, reliable and reasonable machine shop. Last week I took the block, crank, etc. down and discussed possibilities. They immediately saw the need for new exhaust valves, crank grind, and the like. Will call tomorrow to discuss the necessary parts after doing the precise measuring. I am really excited to be to the point of assembly, without the "dis" in front of it! Still a long way to go, but at least it feels like I'm moving forward now.

I went and picked up an older 750cc motorcycle for next to nothing a couple months ago, and have been trying to get that road ready. I haven't had a bike for 17 years, and with these two toys to work on, I feel like a kid in a candy store! Oh yeah, then there's the (gasp) green machine on the other side of the wall waiting for me, too. But the best toys I have, my 2 kids, come first. So a lot of the time it seems like I'm that kid in the candy store whose folks won't let him touch anything!

Life is good. Hope this didn't bore you.

Rob

Found great news with mine tonight. Good compression. Now all I have to find is the time to keep the momentum. Too many other irons in the fire, and got to keep the fire hot til' I get to 'em. Priorities! DON TX
