The 2N is acting up this spring. I think I got to the bottom of the generator issues last fall. She worked great as we plowed up A food plot in late Nov. I hooked up the back blade and backed her into the new pole barn anticipating the need to plow sping snow out of the cabin drive when we returned.

Needless to say, she would not kick over (charged battery, block heater, starting fluid and all.). No spark was the consenus. Plulled a plug and it was not soaked nor fouled. Hooked up the plug and could not see spark. WHAT GIVES?

How could I lose spark parked over the wither?

When we tried to start her at first and failed, we accidentialy left the ignition switch on for about an hour. Could this have burned a point or points?

Before fall: New: Dist cap, rotor, points and condenser and some new wires. All not installed by me. I have not checked switch. The guys did not bring a meter because we assumed everything was a go.

Gas had a full load of Stabil and it was run through the bowl and carb.

I am thinking about new plug wires.

Desperately seeking some insight,

Andy

Could be wet inside from condensation. I have ruined a coil before by leaving the ignition switch on.

Let me encroach on Dell's turf and try to read your mind. Wouldn't start, left the key on, hooked up the battery charger, points happen to be closed, hit the coil with forty amps for about two hours. Result coil toast. Been there done that got a t shirt. While you have the plastic out at the parts place get yourself a spare coil, set of points and consensor and keep a known good set somewhere where they will be handy when you need them.
Or maybe you are really lucky and just drying out a season's condensation will make it go.

Your mileage may vary

My 2N seems to do that once a year, especialy when the garage is cold, the air is warm, and there is a little more than normal humidity in the air, like springtime.

Remeber your high school physics. Water Vapor travels from warm environments to cool ones. So if the tractor is cold, and the air warms up, water vapor will collect on the surface of the tractor. For my 2N, that grounds out the wire on top of the coil, so no juice gets to the distributor.

I have tried silicone spray, and other waterproofing techniques, but the problem still happens once a year at least. The good part is that it only takes a couple of minutes to fix.

A hair dryer works very well drying it off. If drying the coil doesn't work, pop the coil and dry the indside of the distributor as well.

Also check to see that the wire going to the coil is bent up a little, away from the coil surface.

My 600 will loose spark when it sits where it is damp. Seems to build up some corrosion on points. I run a points file across the points a couple times and it is fixed.

Andy , those front mount coils will give you fits sometimes . They just quit working whenever they feel like it . Jumpering around the ignition switch is another possibility to see if it is bad . Good luck .Most of these symtoms occure after tractor is heated up .

Maybe this will work. If you're near electrical power, take off the distributor cap and use your wife's hairdryer to be sure the cap, points and rotor are free of moisture and condensation. The recent rain and humidity might be causing your problems. Hope this helps.

Yep, could have burned the points, or they could be corroded or damp. Remove the cap and look. Points and condensors are cheap, so it won't be bad if they need replacing.
