Been advertising, calling around the country, asking, and thinking about rear blades for the ol' 9N Whimpster now for several weeks.

Think I stumbled on something that may do the trick. For reasons unknown to me, I like to explore these things and learn along the way and so it goes with rear blades. Who would guess, that there is a decent history lesson in rear blades?

Found a Dearborn/Danuser blade in really nice condition for a 55 year old blade. It's in Ohio, and now I'm figuring out logistics to get this old blade to New Hampshire.

When it arrives, it will be wire brushing, light sandblasting, etching, priming and shooting that ol' Ford 8N red on it for a 55 year old blade that will fit the bill on the Whimpster.

I'll post a picture when it arrives and after restoration. But more importantly, I have 75 yards of loam to move drop and level out, that shiny old blade is back to doing what it is supposed to be doing...keeping me off the streets and out of trouble.

The adventure continues.

Hey Tom. That sounds like the Model 19-5 Danuser utility blade. I have both the owner's manual (copyright 1947) and the Master Parts Book for this one. If you get it, and want the info, give me a shout.

Good luck with your acquisition..... ..Ed

Hey Brian when I read the keats in Keene I perked right up. Its nice to know in the big internet world of the n baord that there is somebody close by who has the same interest. I live in Fitzwilliam Just south of Keene. Got 2 2N's a parts tractor and a real nice worker. O by the way I have a 7' King cutter blade it slides and tilts works great. I sure would like one of those old ones though I share 9ners sentiment towards the old stuff.

Ross,
It's a smaller world than you think. I live in Fitzwilliam too.
Are you selling parts off the parts tractor, or using them to keep the other one running?

Go for it fellow Granite-Stater. I have a 6' blade I got from Keats in Keene. Use it to plow snow, and repair the dirt driveway in spring. Wish mine were a Dearborn or Ferguson, but what the heck. Like to know how you're getting it from the midwest. I'd drive to Mass. or Vermont for a good deal. Not enough time to drive to Ohio and too cheap to ship it here.

Hey I know what you mean. I'm too cheap too, but with all of the looking, asking, and insights from a couple of collectors and dealers in old Dearborn implements, what I stumbled upon is worth the effort and a little more expense in shipping.

For some reason, I like the idea of obtaining the implements that were made 'back then' for these 9/2/8N's. Something about the history of the manufacturer, talking to collectors, and finding a blade in very good overall condition. Can't wait to get my hands, er ah, I mean grinding and wire wheels, and air gun on it.

And, then it's loamthirty...well, at least when the loam is done, it will be beerthirty; sitting back and looking at the old blade and seeing the scratches I just put on it after some sweat equity! It doesn't get any better than this. 9N'er

That seems like a long way to get a blade, unless you wanted that specific type and brand, then distance is no limit! ;>)
Hope that the 75 yards is not all in one big pile. That will take a long time with just a back blade.

75 yards in 5 - 15 yard piles. But, before that, it's hauling composted leaves and chips to the sites and laying down a couple inches of that stuff beofre I dump the loam. What do you think? a two hour job at the most? ;) ?
