Ran my ole' N to death and even swore up and down at it after I got it stuck in the mud. Guess I should have taken it out more on myself than my lowly hard-working friend. In any case, I changed my oil and filter for the season and added some routine MMO to the crankcase. (as usual)

Engine is 40#s+ when cold, operates at low 30s when working/idling and never gets below 25-26#s even after working for 4-6 hours out in the heat. Seems to be in good shape but just wanted to check.

BTW, I went with the Fram C3P oil filter - really liked the older ones and other brand ones a little better - seem to be better made than this one but this is all that they had at the Advanced Auto Parts on Sunday. So I guess I paid it back with a nice new oil change and plug replacement for all of the lashing I gave it for getting stuck. :-D

I went with Autolite 437s - is that a good choice considering my oil pressure and very good compression ratings on my engine? I went with the standard 30wt. HD oil as usual by the way. The MMO I use in all of my engines and I feel it works extremely well for me.

ThX
Andy

IN MY 1950 8N I RUN MOBIL 1 SYNTHETIC 15W50 IN THE SUMMER AND MOBIL 1 SYNTHETIC 10W30 IN THE WINTER. AT 1500 RPM I HAVE 40 POUNDS OIL PRESSURE COLD AND 30 POUNDS OIL PRESSURE WARM. IF I RUN 10W30 IN THE SUMMER MY OIL PRESSURE DROPS BELOW 30 POUNDS WARM. I PREFER PUROLATOR OR LUBRI-FINER OIL FILTERS. THESE OIL FILTERS ARE AUTOMOTIVE BASED WITH PLEATS. FRAM, NEW HOLLAND, AND OTHERS USE A FIBERGLASS/CLOTH WEAVE TO DO THE FILTERING. LOOK AT THE MEDIA AND SEE WHICH ONE YOU PREFER.

I always wonder about very high oil pressure readings. The owners manual, repair manual and several other sources say 27lbs at 1500 rpm at operating temperature is normal. I have about 70 hours on a complete engine rebuild with new new oil pump & gauge. I get somewhat over 30lbs at startup, winter or summer and will drop to about 10 -12 at idle after warm up. After operating for some time guess what. 27 lbs at 1500 rpm. I don't think older gauges/pressure relief valves are very accurate.

You have better oil pressure than half the Ns out there, including mine. Some will put in 40 wt during the summer for extra protection, but you don't need it.

The 437s are fine.

I wish my 8N had that kind of oil pressure thats great. Mine is 30# cold and about 10"12# when hot.I use 50 wt in summer. I gotta rebuild someday but not till I have to.

Oil pressure sounds real good, the 437s should be fine. I agree with you that Fram would not be my first choice of oil filter, but ok "in a pinch".

30 wt. HD oil is best (except for winter in very cold climate)for an N engine.

I like MMO to use for a flush, add to crankcase, run for a few minutes and change oil. I also think it does a good job on sticky valves, but I do not like it as an oil additive to stay in the oil all the time. It is basically a kerosene/coal oil product and dilutes the engine oil.

We all have our opinions based on our own experiences. I am sure that others will disagree with me, but I have considerable experience in this area and that is my opinion.

Sounds like you have a real good tractor. I am sure you will enjoy it for many years to come.
