I AM LOOKING AT PURCHASING A BEARCAT 73454 PTO CHIPPER IN A FEW DAYS. I HAVE A DEMO COMING. DO YOU HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS BRAND? IT WILL ACCEPT STICKS UP TO 4" IN DIAMETER, IT HAS SELF FEED, IT WIEGHTS 600 POUNDS, AND IT HAS A ROTATING DISCHARGE TUBE 7' IN THE AIR. I AM ONLY PLANNING ON USING THIS AT THE FARM TO CLEAN UP. THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT. PHILIP

Phillip..... ....at 600#, your N-Hydraulics might not lift it. Good hydraulics will lift about 750# and then the frontwheels will start flappin in the breeze. (put some front weights on) Your N-PTO should have enought horsepower but does it have enought RPMS? 540 at 3/4 throttle is usually where the N-runs. Self-feed is desirable. A lot of urban areas have BANNED OUTSIDE BURNING because they think it smokes and polutes the air but fireplaces are OK, go figgure. A lot of chippers are being sold because of the banns..... .....Dell

THANKS FOR THE INPUT. I JUST CHECKED AND MY WOODS RD7200 WEIGHTS 670 POUNDS AND I CAN LIFT IT OKAY, PROBABLY CLOSE TO MAXED OUT. HORSEPOWER REQUIRED FOR CHIPPER IS 15 AT 540, SO I SHOULD BE OKAY THERE ALSO. I AM GOING TO TEST DRIVE THE CHIPPER WITH MY 8N BEFORE I BUY. RIGHT ON THE MONEY ABOUT THE BURNING. PHILIP.

Philip,

If I may be so bold to ask, how much are they asking for your chipper? I just checked the current pricing through Northern Tool and the one I have (3" branches) is $1300. One that will handle 4-1/2" stuff is $2150. BUT one that is self-powered (10 H.P. B&S) is $1470. It'll handle 4" stuff, too, and as I said before, there's something to be said for a self-powered unit. You might check it out (northerntool.com).

Ron

3 POINT PTO CHIPPERS ARE $3000. THE BEARCAT 73454 WILL ACCEPT 4" LIMBS AND HAS A 7' DISCAHRGE TUBE, THE VALBY 140F WILL ACCEPT 6" LIMBS AND HAS A 3' DISCHARGE TUBE. THESE UNITS DO NOT DISCHARGE ON THE GROUND. THESE ARE HEAVY DUTY UNITS, WEIGHING 600 POUNDS. THE GREAT THING ABOUT USING THE 8N IS MOBILITY AND POWER AVAILABLE AT THE PTO. THANKS FOR THE INPUT, I HAVE CHECKED NORTHERN TOOL. PHILIP
