I knew that lever stepped-up the PTO speed nicely but I didn't realize it changed the ground speed. She really hauls butt down the lane with that lever pulled back!
Help me understand this tranny please. It's about full throttle and PTO speed right? So at full throttle in Sherman's low-range the PTO is running at the PTO tool-speed around 540?

Rob, full throttle on a properly adjusted throttle linkage is too fast for the PTO and unsafe. The 540 rpm output is obtained when the engine is a 1500 rpm, NOT FULL THROTTLE.
These mowers are dangerous enough at proper speed with their ability to sling debris. If it sounds like a jet engine whistle under the mower deck, it is too fast.
I usually run about 2/3 to 3/4 throttle on my brushhog. It is close.

Ed, you must have a copy or brochure of just about everything ever made for these Fords. It's just amazing the size of your collection!

Hey Steve. Shoot, I wish! There's a ton of stuff that I have yet to acquire. I have catalogued about 350 different pieces that I do have in an Access data base so far, and I've still got three stacks of stuff that I haven't had time to even catalog, and let's not even discuss scanning this stuff into digital format. I guess if I ever get snowed in for a week or so I could get some serious scanning done.

Thanks for the nice comment..... Ed

What does it take to get snowed in for a week down there, 8" maybe 10"?

Rob, If Memory serves me the sherman steps each gear up by 1.5 times. And it steps it down the same if your tractor has an over/under sherman in it. The pto rotates at 545rpms at1500 rpms on motor. And yes this chages with an overdrive engaged. Acording to the book higher rpms on the pto are only recomended for belt pulley uses.
