I was backblading some dirt and something went PING! and now I have no motion. I can place it in any gear without grinding the hydraulics and PTO function normally But I have no motion at in either forward or reverse. there is no noise in the drive train with the clutch let out and it tows without any strange noises. Did I tear out the clutch? Where do I start diagnoseing this? The clutch pedal does feel different but if I did mess up the clutch would I be able to engage and disengage the PTO without grinding?

I would first pull the right side inspection plate and look inside and see if the coupling is intact and turning.

CAUTION!!!!! have the rear end up off the ground so there is no chance it can run over you if something should catch and go.

If the coupling and the pinion shaft appear to be turning I would pull the PTO shaft and look inside to see if the ring gear is turning. The rivets that hold the ring gear to the carrier can shear off and the ring gear will remain in place but turn around the carrier housing.

It is possible that the pinion gears or a side gear is broken in the differential carrier but the left side trumpet housing and axle will have to be removed so you can remove the differential and inspect.

I just pulled the inspection plate and the shaft is turniing Next step will be to pull the PTO shaft as you suggest Zane. Unfortunatly the Tractor is over on my property about ten miles from home and I work six days a week so this may take me a while to take care of. Thanks much for your help

Update #2 I pulled the PTO shaft and the ring gear is turning however I was running out of daylight and patience so I did'nt see if it was slipping on the assembly or not. If the rivets are popped off should I to fish some chunks out of the bottom of the Housing? Also if jacked up with both rear wheels of the ground will I be able to deduce anything by spinning the wheel.
I have had this tractor for about three years and the most I have done to it is retorque the head replace the king pin and points plugs and new harness.
Since I probably will have to pull the trumpet can this be accomplished with the axle and brake assy, intact?

If you have a rolling hoist you can pull the axle and trumpet housing together but if you don't I would not try it. Too heavy and it is hard to realign the axle spline while funbling with that heavy axle housing etc. Never try it with the wheel on the axle.

The ring gear can turn on the differential carrier and not come off because it is held by a side thrust thingy on the left axle housing. Pull the left axle and not the right.

If the rivets have sheared there will be no metal in the bottom of the housing as the rivets will still be tight in the holes. They will have to be driven out of the gear and the carrier. You can get a bolt kit replacement for the rivets.

Pitch, Ya probably tore somethin' up back of the transmission. If your pto and hydraulics are working chances are good that your clutch is ok. My guess is you stripped the coupling between the transmission output shaft and the pinion shaft at the rearend. If you stripped the ring or pinion you would probably have trouble towing the tractor or at least you would be getting some strange noises. I would pull the side plates off the center housing and have a look at the coupler. Jack the tractor rear wheel off the ground while looking at the drive shaft and see what it looks like. Might wind up removing the tranny; top to inspect for movement. Could be an axle but you will have to look. Don't get too anxious to tear something apart until you have to.
Come back with what you find, someone will help and guide you.

If the pto starts & stops turning with the clutch, then assume the clutch is OK. The hydraulics working are also dependant on the pto being engaged and the clutch being engaged. If this all works it would lead me to think transmission or differential or even a broken axel. Good Luck
