8N PTO oil leak short drive shaft

I'm new to tractors but I'm learning more than I ever wanted to know. I've got an 8N I want to use a King Kutter 6' finish mower with it. The drive shaft that came with it is too long. Can I just cut it down with a hack saw? What will one of those cost to replace it when I want to move up to a bigger tractor?

I've got a little oil leak at the seal for the PTO on the tractor, how do I check the oil level in that case and how much should it have?

The fill cap on the transmission does not have a dip stick, should it? If not how do I find out if it needs oil? What kind of oil goes in them both?

BTW I ordered the manuals but I can't wait 3 weeks to start mowing. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Richard, the shaft/s willhave to be cut to fit. Remember that you have to cut both shafts, not just one. Measure carefully the distance from your ORD that is on your PTO plus the universal (on both ends) to the mower, then raise the mower and see if the shaft will slide into itself enough with the measurement you took.
Yes, you can cut them with a hacksaw. There should be a dip stick on the right side to the transmition below the seat. Use Trans. oil that meets fords 134 requirements.

Hope this helps
