The seller describes them as "Ford Tractor Draw Bar Holder" He claimes that they are 17" long. What could they be used for? Would they be suitable for holding down the lift arms in place of chains for operating remote cylinders from the test port?

They are used to connect the tractor end of the toplink hitch to the lift arms, as part of a drawbar kit.
The full set-up would also include a drawbar that would then be placed horizontally between the lift arms.
The drawbar is then secured to the lift arms and the two pictured item bars with the hitch pins shown in the e-Bay picture.
The full kit also has a wing nut clip thingie on a chain that you would put on the hydraulic control. This prevents inadvertedly attempting to raise lift arms and make 2 bows out of those e-Bay items.
Hope this helps. Real Guru's here probably have pic, and better terminology for parts

Picture is worth 1000 words.
URL below shows several pics of beautiful restoration of 8N.
Scroll down to one showing "Dearborn Swinging Drawbar", and you will see what I tried to describe above.

Pat: Thanks for your help, but there are two items by the same seller with the same title. The one you are referring to are a pair of drawbar stays. The item # for that one ends in...293. Please check the other one and see if you can identify it also! Thanks again for your help,
Arthur

Arthur: Still looks to me....
Both items are just slightly different models of the same part....drawbar stays.
Both are used as I have described (tried to)
in my earlier posts, and serve same purpose.
The one item set just has a bolt adjustment allowing you to raise or lower the height your drawbar will be set at.
Fully closed, it could be about 17 inches, and the drawbar would then be set as high as possible.
The sellers pictures show one set with toplink end up, and the other set with lift arm end up.
This seems to make them look even more confusing.

Being that they are only 17" long is the part that makes it difficult to figure out what they are, huh?
