I understand that Dish Network and Direct TV will be combined (the "Guv-mint" willing).
Any scoop on what changes are planned in programming?
I just re-upped for a year.
I just got used to having an old tractor show avaiable on RFDTV :-(

Here's a link on the proposed merger provided by Dish Network. Of course, it's slanted in favor of the merger, but it seems like Dish Network are pretty good people. I've been a subscriber for a while and they're always downloading improved receiver software, etc. I just got on-screen caller ID for no charge without asking for it. Also, the "TIVO" type recorder and guide features are free (other than the initial equipment cost).

I'm a Direct TV customer and On Dish Network they kept telling that you could get RFD TV on Direct. I could not. So I called Direct Service and they told me that I would have to have an updated version of the Direct Dish. Being that I rent the equipment from Direct,it didn't cost me any more and no more a month. In fact I picked up a few more stations. The difference in the two dishes is the new one has two pickups. When the service man was here he told me if and when they get local TV ,they will come out and put another pick up in between the others. It works for me and I get RFD Tv on channel 379 on Direct.

I'm on Direct TV, and have a Dual feedhorn. It is built together, not two sep. heads,,,that is for 2 different receivers. I get the local broadcast stations thru it, as is, for $4.99 a month more. The dish "dish" has to be "polarized" (turned to get the signal hitting the dish at the right angle), but the direct tv dish doesn't. This makes me wonder,,,which type of dish would be the one used? Would all the others have to buy new dishes??? Bob in NY

I started with Primestar, That was taken over by Direc Tv. The service went down hill fast. We lost service so much I got fed up with it and went to Dish Network. That is a lot better. I got more and better service cheaper.I hope the merger of the two does not mean rotten service again.

Oh great - just when I wired the second reciever.

My uncle in law has direct tv and I have dish network.

He and I both agree that the dish network is an easier to use system, but he stays with sirect tv because he has a bootleged card that allows him all channels.

rbell,
You must be on dish, I'm on Directv and they took off the rural programing about 2-3 years ago, seems to many city folk didn't like it. Maybe with the merger I'll get it back. Sure miss classic tractor fever.

Yeah, I think I have all the old Classic Tractor shows on tape and I pull one down every once in a while and watch a couple of shows. I understand that the host, Ray Wilkinson, passed away a year or so ago. He used to be the ag reporter on one of the local TV stations near here in Raleigh. I'm on DirecTV and haven't seen the Dish version of the ag network. Do they have a tractor show?

The merger has not yet been approved by the FCC, just last week the hearings were postponed until June because of changes made in the proposals that require more public input. The major thing I have seen in the programming proposal is that they say they will offer local channel programming in all US markets. They also have proposals for new satellite(s?) to handle this local traffic, I believe.
