Been having trouble with the 8N fouling #4 plug.Done a compression check 'dry' today with these results. 95-80-90-95.Number 4 being one of the better readings and it's causing me the most trouble.I suspect they all may be to low but why only fouling the one plug. It's always soaked with oil. What do you guy's think?

Rich- You also need to perform a wet check using 1 tbsn of 30 wt oil in each cylinder. That will also help you determine how much your valves may be contributing to low compression.

You need a min of 90 lb in each cylinder with no more than 10% variance between high and low, which you don't have.

I suspect that your #4's compression is "good" because it's staying wet. I think it's fouling out the plug. Because of the low comp in #2 & 3, #s 1 & 4 are working harder and that will cause more oil around your rings.

In any event, sounds like you're in for new rings at the least.

Best of luck.

The readings aren't partitularly bad. I'd check for wear that could be present at the distributor bushings. It's possible that the #4 isn't getting adequate spark due to a variance in the opening of the points.

Regards.

Could also be bad plug wires leaking off. Or a poor plug.
