I think previous posts have addressed this issue. If I remember correctly, they are not interchangeable. The 9N/2N has a straight or spur cut input gear and the 8N/NAA has a helical or "slant" cut gear.
Comeon guys, am I slipping here?

Reno..... ...Barny's semi-gottitt right. The earlier 9N's had straight cut tranny input shaft gear, but I think they changed to helical cut sometime in late 1940 early 1941 (I've been known to be wrong).

Bottom line, ya gotta check visually, its rather obvious the differences. The tranny input shaft length to the clutch disc is the same in all N-Tractors. Its the tranny gear..... .....Dell

Goodmorning, Del.
That is a slippery slope that we walk on. I can't remember how many things that I have forgotten. ;>)

Hi, FYI, I have a 1942 2N which has the Sherman Step Up transmission installed. So at least the 42's and I assume the one's after that will work.

Hope this helps.
