To pull an axle trumpet? The pin for the rh lift arm is loose on mine too. I assume the left trumpet? I suppose that would be a good time to break the tractor at the back of the trans for my PTO problem too. Anyone know anyone parting an 8N trans that has the gear collar and the mating gear (the one that bolts to the transmission bottom shaft)?

Thanks a million Dave. Great pic!

Found my PTO parts at a local tractor salvage, at least they say they have them on the shelf. :-)

Not too bad a job, if you have the correct sockets, jacks, and stands. Just all bull work, of course the bull has to be smart enough to diagnose and fix all the problems he will run into along the way. Go for it, be safe, and do yourself a favor. Fix everything back there at once. You'll not need to go in again for a long time!

Okay, good advice. Thanks. What are the things I should look for?

Lets see.. from the outside.. Broken or missing wheel studs..Axle problems, brake problems, loose brake shafts, worn out ring and pinion, Ring and pinion bearing problems, PTO seal leaks, PTO bearing problems, worn out PTO shaft or bent, whupped bolts, threads, missing cotter pins, crack in housings, bad gaskets, glook in the housing, former cobbled repairs, welded parts that weren't originally, birds nests in places you wouldn't expect, small parts dropped into barely larger holes by your young assistants, etc, etc, etc. I'd give ya more but I wouldn't wanna scare ya.. or myself!;-)
I like to do all the rear housing repairs at once, so I have a chance to clean out all the gook that can get into hydraulics later. PRobably that's why I have 4 N's here with real shiny back halves and no hoods....SOmeday I'll finish teh front halfs!
