I bought a pressure washer last weekend at Home Depot - a 2400 PSI Excel with a 5HP Honda to drive it. It was snowing when I got it home so I put off cleaning the mowers until after I mowed lawn this afternoon. Fired up the pressure washer with a medium spray tip - cleaned the Snapper rider in nothing flat. I had the JD 317 behind the Snapper and that needed a bit more work because the hydrostatic drive is leaking a bit. After only about 10 minutes use - maybe less - the pump let go. The Honda is running strong but the pump sounds like a coffee can full of marbles and the pressure is gone. I have the thing in the truck and come morning we'll see how good Home Depot customer service is. I've never had to return anything to them before, and I can't say as I've heard anyone say anything about their return policy one way or the other. I'm hoping I don't get sent to a 'repair center'.
While it worked though it seemed pretty stout. When I did the 8N up last summer I borrowed a 1200PSI electric that was pretty much useless and then a 1700PSI gas model. The 1700PSI was better than the 1200 but still not what I hoped for. This 2400 PSI blew a few years of caked on grease off the JD - (It's only 29 years old - still a puppy compared to the 8N and 850) I think the replacement pressure washer will clean up the 850 just fine when I get it ready to paint the red. Because we are due for rain tomorrow I'm putting off the LeSuer Antique Power Swap Meet until Sunday. Should be 50 and sunny.

The pressure washer lasted 10 minutes - the return/exchange took less than half of that. I did an exact model exchange (because my experience with the pump could not be typical) and I had the receipt with me. No paper work, no questioning, no hassle at all. They impressed me!!

Paul,

Keep us informed please, I was just looking at the same model. I will be curious if you get the same model again and how it works.

My experience with returning stuff to Home Depot has been very good. Last summer, I returned a failed ceiling fan I bought at the Woodbury, MN, HD well over a year and a half earlier. The particular fan model I purchased was no longer available so they credited me the original sales amount and I bought a better model.

I also returned a coil roofing nailer to the Bloomington, MN, HD last summer after re-roofing a section of my garage. The nailer would jam every time I shot a nail. Again, they gave me my money back with no questions and I again purchased a better model.

I had also hoped to make it to LeSuer this weekend but, I've been putting off painting the main floor bathroom since last fall after removing the wallpaper. My wife is threatening to hire an interior painter to repaint ALL the walls.

Good luck with Home Depot and hope you enjoy the swap meet!

Steve

Hi Paul,
I've got the smaller, 2100 psi Excell from Home Depot. I bought it in January and it was a cutomer return.. Got a pretty good deal on it. I've been using the snot out of it and it hasn't skipped a beat.... It has a 6 horse B&S. One peculiar trait it has is it ALWAYS starts on the 4th pull. I can live with it.
Now, it just so happens I work at Home Depot. It's our policy to just swap it within 30 days; after that, we ask you to have it serviced. I hope you have your receipt. It makes the process very uncomplicated.
Good luck.
Chuck
