How much calcium chloride do 8N rear rims hold and how much weight does it add to the tractor?

I am about too drained the calcium chloride out of my 8N's back tires 11X28. I was wondering about how much fluid they hold and about how much weight it adds to each rim? I looked in the archives and all I could find is one reply about they added 620 lbs. to each rim. Sounds too high to me? Any Ideas?

I was doing some rear wheel seals and, long story short, I ended up under one of the rear wheels when the damn thing fell over on me.
I don't have an exact weight but ther're HEAVY (espcecially when lifting them from the horizontal position!)
The fluid came out of both tires before the tractor moved again. I miss the weight in winter when I'm blading and blowing snow, but my lawn thanks me for the reduction.

Calcium Chloride it the best way I know to ruin a set of 8N wheels.

I just bought two rear wheels that have both been eaten away inside above the square portion that traps the calcium chloride when you have a puncture. One has been fixed by someone by wrapping fiberglass all the way around the wheel and then epoxying it good. I am afraid to try to use these wheels because I am afraid that they may explode when inflating the tire. I had two more that were in much better condition that I am using.

Don't use Calcium Chloride.

Ric..... ....my Ford Owners Manual sez: 5 lbs of CACL/gal H2O and if filled to 90% cap then you use 116 lbs CACL and 23 gal H2O for a total weight per tire of 310 lbs of solution. And inflate to 12-14 psi.

Personally, I strongly suggest some other form of anti-freeze over CACL. You might loose 25-50 lbs per tire but Auto radiator or RV toilet antifreeze is much kinder to metal tire rims. You really only have to protect to about 20 deg, the water just slushes up and doesn't freeze solid..... ....Dell

I don't know the weight of CC, but water is roughly 6.5 to 7 LBs/Gallon.

Ric, you may be about right on your total weights. I don't know how much they will hold. However, friends strongly discourage friends from running calcium chloride in their tires. As Luke said, there are alternatives. IMO, the slight additional weight you get with the cc does not justify the potential damage when you have a leak. ray

Ric,

Not sure of the exact weight but if you are going to refill your tires consider some other alternative than chloride it is nasty stuff that eats your rims. Some use antifreeze and water and I have seen some non chloride alternatives at ag stores that are non corosive.
