I have heard, and been told, conflicting stories on the type of oil that an N likes best. What do you wise sages suggest for my 8N in northern MI for spring and summer?
Thanks for the educational and supportive board.

15W-40 all year long in every tractor. No problems in 50 years.

Al,

There is a poll going on on the N Series web site at this moment on this topic. The results now are:

Non Detergent: 224
Single weight Detergent: 318
Multi Weight Detergent: 457
Synthetic: 61
Other: 15

I use 10w/30 in my rebuilt 8N. My opinion is that the oil you use depends on the condition of your engine, your location, and your preferences.

Danny

Straight 40 wt is what is called for in spring/summer and 30 wt in winter, although a 10w30 might be better way up there.

Hi Al. I have a 9N at camp that I use all year long, for plowing, grading, mowing, plowing snow etc. I use 10/30 Detergent Oil all year around and have been for over 25 years. During the real cold weather, I use one of the small magnet electric heaters to warm it up a little before starting. I'm back in the woods using a generator and this works out fine. Any further questions, just send me an email. Ron
