Alex-

A lot of people convert to 12v because they've heard "it's the thing to do." Yeah, there are some advantages if you need extra elect for things other than lights, but a lot of 12v conversions aren't done right and you can end up spending a lot of time correcting problems.

Just something to think about.

Alex..... .....Yes, there really is a 12 volt frontmount ignition coil, you've just got to insist that the partman look further down the list.

UNFORTUNATELY, the 12 volt frontmount ignition coil still requires a current limiting resistor of about 1/2 ohms and 10 watts. Radio shack has 'em. Tractor parts dealers DON'T have 'em, and most partspushers don't have a clue. They'll try to sell you a 12 to 6 volt resistor, WRONG!

DO NOT USE the infamous 6 volt ballast resistor mounted on the backside of your dashpanel. It is the VERY WRONG value of resistance.

If you don't understand what I've explained, ask me again.

I am a 12 volt advocate for the right reasons, that said, I haven't found the right reason for my eazy starting 6 volt 52 8N, and I know how to do it right..... ..... Dell

Been there done that (all wrong that is). Use a resistor with the 12V coil. I played around with several resistors and burned out coils. I found that after operating 20 minutes, and when I stopped and put my hand on the coil I better be able to leave it there. If you have to remove your hand because it is too hot you'll eventally melt your coil down and no more sparkies. My tractor now starts flawlessly and no more burnt 12V Coils!!
