How do I set my governor to lift the rear things on my Dads tractor. He told me that if I set the governor at a speed that is comforatble to drive I could also use the rear legs on the back of the tractor to lift things na d pull it.

I don't know how to set the governor because I need to lift a bunch of rocks in my scoop.

Paula those lifting arms in the back are operated by the hydraulic control lever there at your right hip.
There's another lever (PTO shifter lever) way below your left hip that has to be pushed-back, (while you hold in the clutch) to make it all work. When you're not using the lifting arms then pull that PTO shifter lever forward so that little shaft sticking out the back of the tractor isn't spinning when it doesn't need to be. It's not good if the gets a hold of your pant leg. Stay away from it. Maybe it covered on your tractor, hope so.
You'll probably have to set the tractor speed up a bit to give power to the lifting arms. That's done with the governor (throttle) lever there near the steering wheel.
Paula the Ford New Holland tractor dealer sold me the Operator's Manual for $5. It explains all the controls w/pics and has tractor safety rules (very good stuff to know). It also tells you how to start it and fix it and a lot of other things. Check it out.

Hi Paula,

Your dad was probably meaning to use the throttle to speed up the engine. I used to hear that expression in the earlier days.

So the governor will keep your engine at the RPM's that you have selected by the throttle.

Hope this helps. :)
