Is it possible that there are only a hand full of companies that make all the finishing mowers. Just different colors and decals?

I have been looking around at finishing mowers and have found that many of them are identical or atleast very very similiar. Like First choice brand and Land Pride? They look very close to the same except paint. Land pride is about 50% higher than First choice. They also look the same as a WAC Brand. How many companies out there make all the finishing mowers? Thanks

Not only is it possible, it's quite common. Here in Canada there are a number of companies who make implements and then sell them "raw" to the bigger names. The big name company then puts the finishing touches on it.

Just as the big guys can't be bothered to build their own straw choppers for $250,000 combines, they'll sell mowers, swathers, tillers etc but won't bother to build them in house.

Land Pride and Bush Hog and Walco-Douglas all make their own. LP and BH make the "Cadillacs"(although both make an economy line which are not deserving of the name they wear) and W-D makes an excellent but not as heavy mower. Many of the other discount brands are made by Caroni. Pete
