I recently aquired an 8N with a dearborne front loader attached. After looking the machine over and removing the loader I noticed that there are factory stamped light mounting perches on the top of the hood about halfway between the radiator cap and the Ford script. I have not seen this feature on any photos of 8Ns' that I've found. Does anyone have a clue? The serial number of the tractor is: 8N260498 My research indicates 1950 as the production year. There are pre-punched knockouts in the front side panels where the more common lights would go. I don't know a whole lot about these things, I just always wanted a tractor like this....I guess for the same reason I wanted my Harley-Davidson..... ....they are both real pieces of machinery!
Thanks

Don't move your headlights down to the side panels if you plan on putting the loader back on. There isn't room thats why the hood was drilled and set up that way. I've seen this done on everything from a 9n to a 2000. Sometimes they do it this way just for better lighting, But most of the time its for clearence. John

I have seen them with top mounted lights but I would think that instead of factory perches (which I have never seen) The case is probably that the tractor was sold new with the loader and a conscientous dealer probably had his tin knocker rework the hood to get a good mount.
