My tractor is a 46 2N with a front mount distributor. I was out mowing my pasture with my finish mower. I had been mowing for about 15 minutes and everything seemed to be running and functioning just fine. All of a sudden, and I do mean right now, the engine died and wouldn't restart. This only happened about 20 minutes ago and I'm hoping it will restart when things cool down. I had mowed twice previously this spring with no problems. The only thing I did differently this time was to add a quart of Marvel Mystery Oil to the crankcase before I started mowing. I wanted to clean up things in the engine before I changed the oil. I haven't really checked anything yet but I was hoping you guys might have some ideas of what to check specifically and some suggestions as to what might have caused it to die.

Good advice from jimpCO.

I tinkered with my 2N for a half a day once, trying to get it to start. Then I checked to see if there was gas. Never forget the simple stuff.

If she will run for a second or two on ether, then it is a fuel problem.

By the way, I have added a lot of MMO to my gas and oil and never had a problem.

Do you have spark to the plugs?
If not, it can be your switch, jumper it and see if you get spark to the plugs or it starts.
If still no spark, it may be your coil. Check your points to make sure they are opening and closing and are set at .015 . If all of this is good and still no spark, change out your coil. I am assuming it is 6 V.
If you have spark, do you have fuel? check the flow by removing the drain plug on the botom of your carb.
