Just a tip I got out of instructions putting a bearing hub on the front end of my tbird. Makes sense for any axle nut and wheel bearing and maybe elsewhere.

When I was an apprentice at a GM garage I learned all kind or ways to not do things. They make a special tool to hold the pinion flange on a rear axle so you can tighten the nut up and reach the proper bearing preload. Well that takes way to long for the average flat rate technician so the common thing to do it grab the big impact and hold the flange with the big channel locks.

I wasn't even a mechanic at this point so I got a real funny look when I asked if he thought it may not be a good thing to do to the bearings.

Few weeks later, car comes back with a rear end noise!

Same guy gave the same look when I asked about why he didn't break the cam in properly on a complete rebuild?

That one never left the shop! He chased the miss that kept getting worse and worse untill it was dead in one cylinder.

Flat cam lobe.

Told me that breaking in a cam is race care BS!
