I have a 1946 2n. The tractors governer has trouble getting going. Once it gets going it has no problem. Its when im just starting that it won't give the tractor enough power. I will get off the clutch and the tractor sounds like it is going to die then it will power up. Any help on finding out how to fix this problen would be greatly epreciated. Thanks

Andrew, I had the same problem. I rebuilt the governor and you wont believe the difference it made. When I took the governor apart I found that the 4 balls in it had two flat spots worn on each side and the race had four flat spots on it where the ball rubbed. Rebuilding the governor was easier than I thought. The rebuild kit cost about 45.00 and was worth every penny. Good luck
Also here is a very good site on a governor rebuild. www.si-inc.com/8NOverhaul/

Rich has it narrowed down. Also make sure your governor spring is snug in the "throttle closed" position. You'll know if there's too much slack in the spring. You'll be able to move the throttle lever a good bit before anything happens.

sounds like a worn ball or balls or maybe a worn race. could be a flat spot on a ball too. could be thick cruddy oil too. sounds like its time to look it over.
