If gasket below doesn't work look at the idle air control valve. They get gummed up at about 100,000 miles and cause stalling at stops.

Ron, I had the same problem with my '92 Olds Cierra. In my case, the car would stall and would not start again for about 20 minutes. This only happened if I had been driving for more than half an hour. Turns out it was the computer. $400+. Also, the check engine light was on most of the time while I was driving. I hope you find it to be something cheaper.

this is a no brainer. replace the throttle body gasket, a big thick sucker. You should be good to go for another 100000 miles.

Hi Ron,
Don't know if this has anything to do with your problems, but hope it helps.
I had a 1987 Olds, Delta 88, V-6. Driving at 70 on the Interstate, it would just go dead. No brakes, steering or anything. Scary. Finally traced the problem down to the air-flow sensor. Lots of mechanics and repair shops later, I just traded the car at a loss. It was dangerous. Hope yours isn't that bad. Good luck.

Is it throttle body injected?
