When I put the draft control lever in the down position my back blade will not stay up unless I hold the lever down. Any information on what causes this and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Rob, I had the same problem on my 8N. I took the top off and found the pump was damaged. The square blocks that the pistons are part of were broken in several parts. The previous owner ( my brother-in-law) said he was using a very large box scraper when it stopped working. I think he might have over done it a little. You might be able to see the damage from the inspection plate. but you will need to drain the oil.

Is this a 9/2 N or an 8N? By draft control lever, are you referring to the position control selector or the touch-control lever? I infer that this is an 8N and you're referring to the position control selector. In that case, are you saying that you have to exert downward pressure on the position control selector to make the blade stay up when the touch-control lever is in the full up position?

In draft-control mode, it's either up or down. Does the blade stay up in postion-control mode?

The tractor is an 1952 8N, and I have to hold down real hard on the position control lever to keep the blade up.

When I have the position controll lever in the up position the blade does stay up, but it doen't seem to go up as far.

I would say you need to remove your cover and inspect the cam follower pin. If it is worn, rotate it or replace it and adjust the lift linkages and springs and quadrant. Also check to see if the control arm(the long arm tha goes from the touch control to the valve socket at the bottom)is bent. It should be straight.
