Bush Hog blade bolts question.

I went looking at an old bush hog to pull with my 8N and noticed something that Ithink is odd. The shoulder bolts that hold the blades on have round heads on them. They aren't worn that way, they are made that way. Is there a reason for those being made like that? Would there be any problem with replaceing those with shoulder bolts that had a hex head? Sure would make it easier to remove the blades.
Thanks.

The bolts on my Bush Hog brand mower are keyed. No need for the hex head. If you use a regular bolt the bolt is going to turn in the blade mount. When the bolt turns it will eventually wear the mount. Bolts are cheaper than mounts. Bolts and blades are wear items and will have to be replaced periodically. I don't think I would want a blade coming off a 'hog' because I did not use the right bolts.

Understand your thinking, but with the beatings that the swinging blade bolt takes, you'd bugger the heads up anyways. I've always had to use a pipe wrench when I replaced mine. BTW they're special hardend bolts anyways..... ....Dell
