I would appreciate a your thoughts.

I found a 52 8N. It is complete. Here are the main points:

-Always been in a barn.
-Tin is good, grill is a bit rough though.
-Rear tires and rims don't match.
-All ruber in fair to good condition.
-Has a set of road chains.
-6V
-Started right up, no smoke.
-No oil in radiator fluid
-All gears work and shifted just fine.
-Clutch and brakes are good.
-PTO works.
-Has lights.
-Nice Front bumper...must have been added after the grill got beat up.
-Needs new wiring and new fluids.
-The 3pt lift has something wrong with it...raises up and stays there.

Nothing comes with the N. I have first chance at it. I don't want to take advantage of the guy...but I don't have to absolutely have it...I have a 51 and 52...another one might not go over too well with the Mrs...but if I can get it reasonably I can live with what she might think.

It looks to be a nice solid 52 8N that hasn't been monkeyed with.

I am up here near Syracuse NY. I am thinking of an offer of around $1,100 give or take a bit and I realize it would need some money put into it...fluids,wiring, plugs and such right off the bat.

This would be a working tractor for now.

What do you guys think about price?

Thanks guys.

Sal, I would say of you can get it for that it would be a good deal. I live in Mississippi. I've noticed that 8N's sell a good bit cheaper here than in other parts of the country, but $1100.00 is a little less than I would expect to pay of a tractor as you described. From what you describes, it sounds like about a $1500.00 tractor to me. There is A LOT of 8N's in this part of the state. I've noticed the people that have restored a 8N to almost new condition have a hard time selling them for $2500.00 around here. I have seen one trade-in on a lot sell for $3200.00. The trator you described would almost be worth $1100.00 in parts alone. I'd bet the owner would want more than that for a running tractor. Want my advise? Offer him $1100.00. He just may take it. You never know until you try.

Sal, Here in Upstate, NY the dealership I work for puts from $1800-2200 in 'em if they are fairly decent when people trade 'em in on Kubotas. We retail them for between $2700-3300 so if ya can get it for $1100, GO FOR IT! Pete

Dave,

I didn't know you were in the market for one. I'll let you know what happens this week.

I haven't been around the board much lately...work has been a real mess for me lately...if I really thought about it the last thing I should do is be buying tractor stuff, but it seems like N's and such just kind of find me and want to come home with me.

I saw the TSC was open in Auburn, haven't been in there yet...the trip on Rt 5 is making my teeth rattle out of my head so much I keep forgetting to turn in to the store. LOL... So I stop by Maine & Pickney.

Take Care.

Sal.

I just sold one just like what you are talking about for $3,250. I think your offer might be considered an insult. FWIW

I suppose prices will vary that much by region. Around here a working 8N will sell for between $2,000-$2,500....less at an auction (usually between $1500-$1800). Take your local market value and deduct cost of a good quality grille, pair of matched tires and rims, wiring harness, and whatever else it obviously needs and there's your offer.

Why would you be taking advantage of the guy? Is he mentally impaired? If not, I assume he has the ability to say no. Therefore, that's the worst that can happen by offering him $1,100. And he might say yes. Since you don't really "need" it, there's no reason to offer more than it's worth to you. If it's worth more to him, then you give him your phone number, tell him your offer is still good if he doesn't get any better offers and you part friends. Good luck!
