Lift Question?

I just bought a new finishing mower for my '50 8N.
It is a 6' mower and weighs 650 lbs. My 8N will barely lift it up and if you push in on the clutch it will slowly go down. Is this normal or are my hydraulics in need of repair? If the hydraulics need repairing what do you think is causing my lifting trouble. They lift fine on light things. The fluid level is fine and I changed the fluid about 3 months ago.
Thanks.

Ford advertised the lift as being able to 'easily lift 5 men.' You can lift 650# so the hydraulics aren't broke but may be a little tired. The likely fix wouldn't be a repair it would be a potentionally more expensive rebuild. I'm in the same way, I had to cut a tree and I was just able to lift the trunk to get it over to stack. Think I'll remember to keep em a bit smaller next time.
Put 650# on the lift and you'll likely want to buy some front weights. You sure you need to lift things with wheels on em?

Rick,
Check back just a page or two. Someone else asked a question about the lifting capacity. 600 lbs. is a lot of weight.

Hello Rick,

By your statement "will barely lift it up" does that mean it will barely get the implement off the ground or it will lift to full height but it takes time?

Do you have the position control lever in the vertical position?

Since the PTO isn't "live" the implememnt will drop when the clutch pedal is depressed.

Larry,
The lift will raise the finishing mower it just lifts it slowly. I wasn't sure how long the hydraulics should hold the mower up when shutting off the tractor. I shut my 8N off and it slowly drifts down in about 8 seconds. Do you think I will damage the hydraulics any lifting the mower since it is at the max. of it lifting ability. ?
