I have a 47 8N that acutely developed a case of it's pto not able to handle a load. the hydraulic lifts the brush hog o.k. the pto shaft spins but i can stop it with my foot pushing on it. I believe(or so i was told) it has the kind of pto that has a device on it so it keeps mower from pushing the tractor when you push in the clutch.(if this jmakes any sense to you)I unbolted and pulled out the shaft and was greeted with lots of oil. Everything looks o.k. but what the heck do I know. any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Arnold.

If you have an over-running coupler, it may have gone bad. Nose the tractor down in a ditch, then you can remove the PTO shaft. You can remove the ORC. They usually have a roll pin through the shaft under the zerk fittings. Since the PTO drives directly from the transmission, the only way for it not to drive is if the coupler device or splines are worn out. I'd guess that the clutch parts of the ORC are worn out. I'd be careful about putting body parts in contact with moving PTO parts.
