The manual says 400 rpms. Seems low to me, at least on my tractor. What's everyones opinion?

Thanks again

My '51 8N idles at 325 rpm, but has no guts.
As in won't do much without stalling unless the throttle lever is higher than halfway up.
After having skidded logs all afternoon on Sunday I think I'll call her "Stinky".
Hopefully, I'll get around to rebuilding the engine this year.

I finally got mine to idle at 400 but not till I opened up the idle jet to around .038".

Who knows ? I have a front mount and cannot attach a tach (bought one from Northern Tool which did not work). I think you have to be concerned about the charging factor if you idle it for a long time. I idle mine so it's about zero or maybe discharging a little on the volt meter with a 6v ignition. My $.02

Mine seems to be much higher than the 400 rpm that is recommended. Reason being it runs much smoother at the higher rpm.

My NAA will idle down to 325 with the Genosee ignition and move the tractor in 1st gear. But mostly I keep it around 450 or so.
