ORC is broke and I can't get it off!

Hey all,

my ORC locked up the other day, just won't freewheel anymore.

When I tried to remove it from the PTO shaft, I discovered that I couldn't access the spring pin that holds it on--the holes won't line up because the ORC is locked in one position. When I turn the ORC by hand, the whole PTO shaft turns too, so I can not get the holes to line up.

Any suggestions (hopefully easy ones)?

thanks,
tom

Two Words.....FIRE WRENCH. Carefully shave that ORC off. Some people make mistake of cutting directly toward the tractor (cut a groove). What you need to do is shave it on one side til your down to the pto shaft. It's simple!

Engage the PTO with the engine off and that will lock the shaft.
Try and turn the outside of the broken ORC with a pipe wrench till the holes line up...

If that does not work, you will have to pull the shaft and get a better bite on that sucker I think...

I'm for pulling that PTO shaft out and working on it while the shaft is clamped in a vise. My ORC has a spring clip on the outside that holds the drum in place ( that's the part that won't turn for you ). I think if I had that PTO out and clamped in a vise, I could break the spring clip off and drive the drum off with a hammer. My $.02
