Stalling and not restarting.

After over ten years of flawless service dragging our driveway and cutting several acres of field grass our 1952 8N has developed the following problem: After approximately sixty to ninety minutes of use the engine begins to cough, then sputter and then stop. No amount of effort will restart the engine. The only solution is to wait twenty-four to forty-eight hours at which time the engine starts quickly, purrs like a kitten and generally operates flawlessly.

I am not a mechanic or even all that knowledgeable about engines (our neighbor services the tractor twice a year for $20 and a case of beer). However, any direction you might point me in would be welcome.

Thanks.

If you had a front mount distibutor I would say your coil is bad. That may well be your problem even with the side mount dist. You could also jumper around the key switch next time the problem occurs but I'd bet on the coil or condenser in the dist.
