Ok it's a 44 2N,6volt pos ground freshly & prof. rebuilt 3 brush gen. brand new cut out. Rechecked the wiring & it's right. batt. is only 6 months old fully charged. Amp. meter shows 3-5 amps+ at idle, 15+ amps at high idle & stays there. Hand held volt meter shows 7V at the batt.at idle & 8+V at high idle. Shouldn't the amp meter drop to 3-5 amps after a couple mins or less? If so why doesn't mine? Are the points in the cutout spose to open at any time while the tractor is running? These only open when the tractor is off, which is a good thing. Any info is despertly needed & app.

Rusty..... ...thats the problem with the 3rd bush generator system on the 2N. You must manually adjust your charging rate by adjusting the 3rd brush on the back of your generator endplate.

The cutt-off relay disconnects the generator from the battery when and only when the engine stopps gennin the generator, othewize the battery would discharge back thru the generator brushes to ground when you stopped the engine.

There is a sneeky way to handle this problem, a company called "fun products" makes and sells a roundcan transistorized voltage regulator just like your cuttoff relay. Do a N-Board search..... ....Dell
