I am curious what folks here use/like best - using a digital camera or the 'old fashioned way' of taking a photograph (old term) and scanning the pix. Thanks, Al on the farm

I better chime in here since I work for Kodak and have been pretty deep into photography since the 6th grade. I used a one time Kodak discount about 1 1/2 years ago to buy a Kodak DC5000. It is 3.1 Mpix and takes flash mem. I absolutly love it. The DC5000 is a ruggedized model made to survive being dropped and not die from a little rain. It is sold as insurance adjuster or construction use. I am a "bit" rough on things so I went with it. The images are great, I usually go at full 1780 hi-res and then chunk it down with Photo Shop. That way I have a hi-res image and a web version if I want it.

Still, all said, there is NO consumer digital camera yet that can match a quality 35mm and hi-res film or slides. It is just much easier, and FAR cheaper if you take lots of pictures.

MHO..... .dig camera is far better since it is faster and cheaper in the long run.
Oh yeah...hadr drives are cheap these days too.....you'll want lots of space for your pictures and don't forget to back them up somewhere else.....like a cd or dvd.

I much prefer the digital camera route. I just purchased a Kodak 3900 for $350. Very fast, 3.1 megapixels, great quality. I prefer to use the Compact Flash memory-1 64meg stick holds 100+ images at the highest resolution.

I like the camera. Its great for working around the shop. Some times I take things a part and forget how they're suppose to go back together. The camera is handy for taking pictures of projects as you go so you can see how to put them back together.

I perfer the digital camera. It is faster and you do not lose image quality.I have a Sony CD 200 Mavica that uses mini cds.It has 2.1 megapixels and the photos are sharp.I did an article for The Growing Edge (a hydroponics magazine) and the editor was able to use the photos by being sent email.I bought it at staples last fall for $800 and now they have them for $600. The 300 model is out and it has over 3 megapixel.IBM also has a new key board out($30.00)that has 2 usb ports built into it's side so you can plug in cameras much easier than trying to plug them into the back of your computer....laters indy

I use both. I like the quickness of the digital camera, and in certain instances, I can take a picture of a picture in a book and load it faster than if I scan it. I like the scanner for detailed drawings and pictures. You can buy a flatbed scanner for under $50. I use a Sony Mavica FD-85 because I like the idea of being able to use the 3.5 floppy without having a special interface card for the computer. I can make copies of the disk in the camera or in the computer. It also makes email-size images automatically, short movie clips, sound notes and has different effects like B/W, solarized, sepia, etc. I'm saving for a macro and telephoto lens. I also use a Canon 35mm. One can never have too many toys....
