Ed, saw the post you put up for the Dearborn / Ford Sickle bar mowers, wondering if you have any other info. I'm rebuilding an oldie, been told it was a Massey and/or Harris and/or Ferguson from the '40's. No I.D. anywhere, just a casting mark of a diamond shape with a "D" in it. Guys over on the implement board say it sounds like a Massey. Looks a little like a Ford 501. Guy I got it from can't remember what it was, but swears it was made for the 8N. Request elucidation. What other brands from the '40's were specially set up for the Ford?

Hi Paul. Here are two pics from the "Ferguson A-EO-20 Agricultural Mower - Assembly and Operating Instructions" manual:

Hi Ed, I have been enjoying your comments on this board. I have a Ferguson mower, model FEO-20. Do you have any information on this mower? Thanks, gef

Hi gef. I only have info on the xxA-E0-20 agricultural (rear-mount) mowers and the xxP-EO-21 Heavy Duty (sidemount) mowers. Are you sure that you are reading an "F" and not an "E" or "P"? Is your mower sidemount or rearmount?

Regards..... ..... Ed

Hi ED, Thanks for the quick reply. I will have to check on the model number. The mower is about 15 miles out of town and I have not looked at it in awhile. It is a rear mount sickle mower with a belt and not a pitmon stick. I think that tag was clear but I could have looked at it wrong. The numbers I have written down are model FEO-20, serial # 020445, Massy-Harris-Ferguson Lmt.
Toronto Canada. When I get a chance I will go out to the mower and check this information. Thanks gef

Ed, you da' man! Where do you get all this info? This is similar to the one I'm fixing, no pitman arm though...the pto drives a big center pulley, this drives another smaller crankshaft pulley off to the right via a belt, then a short connecter link to the ball-joint on the cutting bar. Also, the main frame for the 3-point is round tubing, no straight section on the top. Dang, I wish I could post a picture....

I can't tell from the diagram: where does that lift chain attach to the tractor? Doesn't it help lift the bar when the 3-point is brought up? I'm trying to figure out my cable/pulley, but the geometry has me stymied.

Anyhow, many thanks to you. Your willingness to help answer these dumb questions is one reason this board is so good.

P.S.: Love the part where it says lubricate "oftener if necessary".

Hi Paul. Don't know whether these pics will apply to your mower or not, but maybe they will be close enough for you to figure out how to connect yours:

Uh...yeah, that helps! Dang, ED!! Now you're just showing off!! I've been looking for ANY info on these old mowers, couldn't find nothin' anywhere! Can't even find out what brand it is! But along comes Ed G., whips out his library of lost implement lore, and casually answers questions I hadn't even thought to ask yet!

Seriously, this stuff is great. It isn't the mower I have, but I don't care, this is very helpful info. This one looks like it was mounted without the standard lift arms attached, must have been a bear to get it mounted. Mine attaches to the standard 3-point pretty easily, and I got enough of it together last night to try it out for the first time in decades. Ran good. Just need to tweak it some.

My sincere thanks again to you. Do you have a lending library?

Hey Paul. Thank you for the nice comments. I really appreciate them. I'm glad that you were able to get that rascal working for you.

>> Do you have a lending library? <<

I'm afraid I can't lend them out, but if you let me know what you need, I'll scan and send you whatever I have that you can use. I've been preserving these in mylar envelopes with acid-free backer boards like comic book collectors use. I just wish I could find the time to get the scanning done. I use questions like yours as motivation to get it a little at a time.

Take care..... ..Ed
