Right Steering Arm Hits Generator and Loosens Belt

I have been putting up with this for years, I may have even posted an earlier message here. Anyway....

There are times when the right steering rod on my 8N goes up high enough to hit the generator, pushing it up and loosening the belt enough to potentially overheat the engine if not noticed.

I am continually adjusting the belt and would like to prevent this from happening over and over.

Is there any special adjustment to eliminate this problem?

Do you have the correct fan belt? A new original equipment one may seem to short but it is correct, just roll it over the pulley.

Hey Rob: My N use to do the same thing. It would even bend the generator brace. You can stop it by moving your wheels out one bolt hole.It will also drive a little better. You will have to re align your front wheels but that is no problem. When you get the wheels moved out get back to us and tell us how it went and how much better you like it.If you need help let us know..Have fun..R.M. The problem is that the axle pivot pin and it's bushing needs to be replaced to eliminate that slopp in the front axle.

You can fix it though so it won't hit the generator by welding a piece of steel onto the front axle support on the opposite side the tractor from the generator. It will go on the bottom of the axle support at the point where the axle strikes when the right side axle is at it's maximum height.
