8N RUNS ROUGH ON SLOPE

I was having problems with my '52 8N running rough a few weeks ago. Did a basic rebuild on the carb and that seemed to do the trick...this last weekend, bushhogged 20+ acres and she still ran fine...ran really low on gas and after I added a few gallons, the engine started missing. It was really noticeable while on a slope with the left side of the engine downhill. Being as the fuel port coming out of the tank is on the left side, I was wondering if it could be more trash/water, etc. The sediment bowl was relatively clear, and the tank doesn't "appear" to have trash in it. Any help would be appreciated...thanks in advance...RON

Ron:

I know you just rebuilt your carb but my 2N does the same thing...if the carb side is on the down hill side it starts to cut out and run rough and eventually will die unless I get to flat ground. The first time it happened I had a long walk back to the house to get the wife and my PU truck to pull me home...when I got back gas was pouring out of the carb. I assume the float is worn and gets stuck when facing down. Until I have time to rebuild the carb I just mow that ditch going the other way!

Rusty had the answer for you.
I second his guess.

Ron,
Trash in the tank would be my first bet and it may be the easiest to check out. My 8n was acting kinda like that and I discovered the screen filter within the tank had trash in it. I did not know how dirty my tank was until I pulled it off and cleaned it out. Now it runs like a new one.
