Just bought myself a sidemount dist. 8N! I already have a Fergie that I just finished sprucing up...so I'll probably keep the Fergie....but the N seemed like a good deal, so I figured what-the-hey?

If I sell the 8N, whadduyah think would be a fair price for it? (I'm not trying to get rich off of it like some of the people on ebay!)

The tractor: Original 6V system, tires are old....one rear is chopped-up around the bars....but they seem solid. Good hydraulics. No major leaks. Runs like a champ- no smoke, plenty of power. Bumper/grill guard. Paint seems original(the red looks more orange than red though). Good sheet metal- dent in one fender. Overall, tractor looks nice and is complete except for proofmeter, which is missing(even has original, working lights!). In my opinion, the tractor is in very good original condition.

What would be a fair price(for me and the potential buyer?)

I have been at two auctions in the last month with 8N's for sale here in OH.
The first was a restored 1952 8N in excellent condition, mechanically and body wise, it went for $3000.
The second was for a 1951 in original condition, the owner bought it when it was two years old.
It was stored inside and the body was excellent, no body work or patches. 2,600 original hours.
Engine seemed to smoke. I did not get to see the oil pressure when warm. It sold for $3,100. but the buyer was bidding against two dealers, he said he paid more than he promised himself but got caught up in the auction.
Considering the engine may have needed to be re-done he overpaid. I would not have paid more than $2,300. I bought a 1952 last year that had good rubber, iron rear wheel weights, a High/Low Sherman transmission, rebuilt hydralics, "fairly" strong engine, but needed body work for $2,800.
I figured that the wheel weights and the Sherman transmission, both of which I wanted, was worth the extra over what a tractor in this condition was worth, which would have been about $2,300. to $2,500 in this area, from an individual not a dealer.
But prices vary with the area you live in.
Price is what someone is willing to pay! And how long you want to sit on it.

Richie, Here in Iowa a late 8n fixed up in tip top shape will bring $2800 to $3000. It depends on how much work you want to put in it and how long you want to sit on it. I was at a auction a couple of weeks ago and bought a 52 8n with an older restoration job in good shape except some one had put 19 inch rubber on the front instead of 16's. I bought it for less than $2000 and plan on making a little bit. I could jack the price a grand and still be 2000 under the local dealer. Hope this gives you an idea. John

Richie, Part of the country your in, number of N's in the area and how bad the buyer wants it all play a part in how much it is worth. Here in southwest WI the tractor at auction would go for $2000.00 to $2300.00. Parked on the side of the road the sign would read $2500.00 to $2700.00
