Well, I thought I had found a "one-of-a-kind" side mount conversion "apparatus." It's for square coil, front mount 9-N distributor.
Looks like, it might throw the whole shooting match, off to the left side, about 11 o'clock. A friend spopped by! Much more Knowledegable on the N's than I am.:-( He advised me, "this was a common thing on stationary engines. Water pumps and such." What do you guys think? Ever seen one? I don't know how to post a picture, but if anyone would like to see, I'll get my daughter to post one for you!! BTW: I've been reading the post on the N_BBQ Sounds like great fun. I'm busy this year selling a house, maybe buying a diesel pick-up.
Playing with the 9-N.:-) But I'll start planning for year II. Thank you so much, Ron.

From about serial# 100000 to 120000 in 1942 and 1943 they came from the factory that way with a Fairbanks Morse magneto, later the Ford industrial engines until late 1950 also used this, the industrial engines did not have a stamped serial# on the left side of the block, it was on a plate on the rear of the engine above the flywheel.

Scott, You may have answered a long standing question about my 9. I have the front mounted adapter that provides for a Wico mag on my 9. The block has never been stamped with a number on the normal boss location. I have always believed it was a replacement engine from a combine. WIll the plate you speak of be visible externally, or would the tractor need to be broken to see it?
Thanks

That would be interesting to see. Post the photo if you can. Was it factory made or home made?
