I replaced my original metal cable with the new plastic type and routed it too close to the manifold and now it has melted! I still have the metal one, but it spins less smoothly than the replacement. What can I do to restore smooth operation? All ideas are appreciated,
Arthur

As I recall, I took my cable apart on the Jubilee and cleaned it all off in kerosene. Then I used Lubriplate to cover only about 1/2 of the inner cable before inserting it into the outer sheathing. As the inner cable entered the sheathing the grease spread to the other end. Wanted to do the same on the 8N's cable, but couldn't get the small keeper on the end of the cable to come out, so I only cleaned in kerosene and that seemed to free it up a bit.

Most auto parts stores sell a speedometer cable lube. Doesn't the plastic cable have a steel sheath inside? Mine did...just take a knife and peel the plastic off.
